Is Your Skin Dry or Dehydrated? Here's How to Tell

I saw this twice this week. They thought their skin was dry, but their skin said otherwise.

I welcomed two guests into my space and they both came in thinking that their skin was dry, but their skin was telling me a different story. What you may feel on the surface doesn't always reflect what's going on underneath.

When I took the time to analyze their skin, one had combination skin and the other had oily skin, but both were dehydrated.

And this is where it can get a bit confusing.

Your skin can feel dry, but that doesn't always mean it is dry.

Dry skin is a skin type (lacking oil).

Dehydrated skin is a condition (lacking water).

You can have oily or combination skin and still feel tight, dull, or "dry" because your skin may be dehydrated, not dry.

The good news is dehydration is something that we can treat.

In the treatment room, I focus on restoring hydrating, and supporting and strengthening the skin barrier so it can function the way it's meant to.

Because at the end of the day, the foundation of healthy skin is always hydrated skin.

Until next time,
