Have you ever wondered why a product worked for someone else's skin, but not for you?
Your skin isn't like anyone else's.
The more that I've been working with skin, the more I realize how no two people are the same.
Your skin is truly as unique as a fingerprint and there is no one-size-fits all.
Skin goes so much deeper than what we see on the surface.
You can have two people with the same skin type (the genetic foundation we are born with such as dry, oily, and combo) and same skin condition (the temporary state the skin is in that we treat), and still see completely different responses to the same treatment.
In summary, on paper and on the surface, they can look identical.
For example, two people may both be breaking out on the forehead, but what’s causing it can be completely different.
One may be dealing with sweat and friction from workouts, while the other be reacting to hair products or buildup along the hairline.
Because of this, the approach to treating it is completely different.
And that is why it may work for them, but not for you.
It's not just about what you see on the surface, it is also about what is influencing it. It reflects your lifestyle, your stress, your environment, routines, and even your Fitzpatrick type (how your skin reacts to sun exposure). All of these factors play role in how your skin barrier is functioning.
Your skin barrier acts like a protective shield to your skin. It is what keeps the good stuff in (such as moisture) and the bad stuff out (such as pollutants). To truly correct the skin, the skin barrier needs to be supported first.
When your barrier is compromised even the “right” products can cause you to experience tightness, irritation, redness, or give you that feeling like nothing is working.
A lot of the time it's not that someone is doing anything "wrong". They're simply just following routines that weren't made for their skin specifically.
I have found that the most meaningful results come from slowing down, understanding what is influencing the skin, and learning what your skin actually needs, so you can work with it.
Until next time,
